As with anything there are 2 camps to everything. For every person you ask if Rain X works for them you will get one who says yes and the other who says no.
I have personally used RainX and I’m actually in the middle of the camps. There are things I like and things I did not like about the product. At highway speeds, the rain just sheeted up and off the windshield in light to moderate rain storms. Then, I noticed that, at night, if I had to use my wipers in heavy rain, the Rain-X produced some really bad streaking that made it hard to see. This is not good. I vacillated back & forth between liking it and not liking it. The type and amount of rain we get here in Ohio and Kentucky you really need to see, especially at night. I eventually used a few applications of rubbing alcohol to remove the Rain-X from my windshield.
Instead of using Rain-X, I keep my windshield immaculately clean, and I replace my wiper blades at the first sign of poor performance, making sure to use good-quality blades. I have no problem with vision through the windshield in any weather condition by using this approach. American Auto Glass also lets people know that windshield do age. As you drive, you card and weather and sun effects the surface of the glass as well as the laminate rubber between the glass. The surfaces gets pitted with all of the constant impacts with sand, dust, rain, bird dropping….. All of these makes pits on your glass eventually diminishing the clarity. Windshield that are 10 years old or older that have been driven a few miles will have significantly less visibility than one that is brand new.
